Required Materials
Gr 8 Water systems: blank paper, ability to print, blank unlabelled map of world (printed off internet), ice cubes, some of the following: fan, water, lamp, sand, plastic clear containers (recycling works - like old water bottles, need to be able to make small holes in them so good to have nails and hammer), sand, gravel, cups, some of the following: twigs, leaves, seeds, ketchup, soy sauce, mustard (other kitchen sauces) - to create dirty water, some of the following: funnels, fabric, cardboard, sand, gravel, yard, wire, coffee filters, etc. - pH strips, conductivity meter (optional), salt, Chlorine test strips, water types (tap, rain, bottled, filtered, stream, etc)
Gr 8 fluids: Notebook for each group of 4-5 ,syringes - about 8 per group, tubing - multiple lengths - about 6 per group, treasure chest (could be any object that sinks but not too heavy) for each group ,sand or material to form the lake bottom ,larger tubs for water , test tubes - about 1 per group ,cardboard for construction and testing surfaces - about 1 piece per group ,food colouring ,popsicle sticks and/or skewer ,fluids including ketchup, mustard, dish soap, corn syrup, mustard, coffee, honey, salad dressing, cooking oil, objects for buoyancy requirement - some that float and some that sink, bendy straws - about 1 per group, paper clips - about 4 per group, empty pop bottle - 1 per group, popsicle sticks, hot glue, small balloons, sand or cardboard and plasticine for the lake bed model
